With the stunning announcement from the Vatican, that Pope Benedict will resign effective on February 28, 2013 could it really be that our generation will see the culmination of St. Malachy's prophetic vision of Papal Succession that terminates with the rise of Petrus Romanus or Peter the Roman to be the Final Pope?
Only Time Will Tell!
So just who will be the Final Pope?
We'll have to wait and see, yet once the white smoke rises from the Sisteen Chapel don't be too surprised if the scandalous Vatican insider Cardinal Bertone rises to rule the Holy See!
Tarcisio Pietro Evasio Bertone was born in Romano Canavese and has served as Camerlengo & Secretary of State of the Vatican during Pope Benedict's reign. Thus if Bertone is elected to the Papacy, a case could be made that he might well fit St. Malachy's prophecies as Petrus Romanus even if he were to take a name other than Pietro/Petrus/Peter as the next Pope.
Once again Only Time Will Tell.
St. Malachy's recorded prophecy of Papal Succession concludes with his account on the Last Pope who will become to be known as Petrus Romanus, or Peter the Roman:
In persecutione extrema S.R.E. sedebit Petrus Romanus, qui pascet oues in multis tribulationibus: quibus transactis ciuitas septicollis diruetur, & Iudex tremêdus iudicabit populum suum. Finis.
(In extreme persecution, the seat of the Holy Roman Church will be occupied by Peter the Roman, who will feed the sheep through many tribulations, at the term of which the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the formidable Judge will judge his people. The End.)
